Remote Controlled Gramophone
Show
Antigone (This Play I Read in High School), 2026
The Public
The goal of this project was to make a non-functional gramophone appear as though it was playing a record.
The original non-functioning motor was taken out and the turntable was attached to a 12-volt DC 60 RPM gear motor that was mounted inside the gramophone. The motor was powered by a rechargeable 12-volt lithium-ion battery that was rewired to include a panel-mounted charging port, which was then installed on the outside of the gramophone.
The motor was also wired in series with a remote-control receiver circuit board, allowing it to be operated using a garage door remote control.
A square opening was cut into the front using an oscillating tool, and speaker grille was stapled to the inside to hide a speaker inside while also allowing sound to come through.
